In a previous blog entry, we discussed the Trumpeter Dauphin II “Japanese Rescue”. The below pictures are for the HH-65A “Dolphin” (Trumpeter 2801). You will notice that the spruces are similar. The main difference between this kit and the other Dauphins are the location of the side windows.
This kit can be used to model an early HH-65A a.k.a. “short nose Dolphin.” Most recent USCG versions have a longer nose (“long nose Dolphin”), and internally, these helicopters receives more powerful engines, FADEC, etc. More information on the HH-65 series can be found on Wikipedia and many other sites.
A number of aftermarkets are available to further enhance this kit. Fireball Modelworks provides beautiful decals and corrections for the larger “Fenestron” (anti-torque rotor), nose (long nose correction), etc. Cobra Company produces a gorgeous detail kit for the inside of the helicopter.
- Fireball Modelworks produces beautiful decals which can be purchased with the appropriate resin set.
- Fireball’s resin set fixes a number of issues with the kit: tail, nose, rotor hub, etc.
- The Cobra Company resin provides ample details for the interior of the helicopter.
