In a previous blog entry, we looked at Revell’s CH-53 GS/G “Camouflaged” (Revell 04446), which was also released under UN colors by the same manufacturer. The kit’s first version was in fact Revell Monogram HH-53 “Vietnam Rescue” (#4542). It included a jeep and 105 Howitzer, but lacked the advanced blades provided in the later model “Camouflaged” and UN versions.
Recently, Revell re-released its HH-53 as HH-53C Super Jolly Green Giant (Revell 85-4542). The re-released kit has the same spruces as the original Vietnam rescue, but includes a much improved decal sheet, which allows for the depiction of a more recent U.S. Navy machine. The kit continues to include the Jeep and Howitzer. It is a very affordable kit, and can be easily found online and in hobby shops. Though lacking the details of its Academy CH-53E cousin, this is a desirable kit. It’s relatively easy to put together (Pay attention to the fitting of the clear part for the cockpit).
